Easter Egg Hunt in the RAIN!!!

We prayed for good weather. We set up in a slight drizzle because the weatherman said it wouldn't rain until 1:00. At 9:30, we thought we were home free. At 9:45, our friends started to show up. At 9:48, it started to rain. Fortunately, I had several large sun umbrellas out, the kids were all decked out in rain jackets, and the rain played hide and seek for the next hour or so. The kids all had great fun anyway...

This was Pearl hiding the eggs. The sweater that really goes with this dress is short sleeved and pink. I have tried to get her to wear it with this green sweater before, but she wouldn't have it, always picking another dress instead. Today, however, she realized the futility of it all, and decided to listen to her mother:)
Sam was having a hard time while the eggs were being hidden. "no Sam, it's not time to put them in your basket yet!"
Pearl was so excited to see her cousins!
Don't these bunny ears make you laugh? These little ones were taking shelter in the porch overhang and eating muffins (of which I made 7 dozen, still have about 4 dozen left...). I was so glad my sisters came all that way for 45 minutes of hanging out outside in the rain!

All in all, I was glad we went ahead and did it. We had a fairly decent turnout, despite the weather. The kids loved it (even though we didn't hide the eggs as well this year, too afraid it was going to pour any minute....) My friends Hoalli and Sherri brought crafts for the kids to do, which were a big hit. Now I just need Julia to come help me finish cleaning up my kitchen...

Play it again, Sam!

I caught Sam entertaining himself at Grandma's on her grand piano. My first instinct was to tell him no, but instead I went and got the camera. It was so funny, he was singing a nonsense song and accompanying himself! Maybe it's natural, and Sam will be our pianist...(he does have better innate rhythm than Pearl...)

Sam and Nature

On tuesday it was a snail (which ended up in an unfortunate shell crushing accident) and on sunday it was a tiny green caterpillar. Sam loves to get right up close to it, ask me what it eats, then try to feed it (whatever it is.)

I had to throw this picture in because Pearl has a new hobby. She used to clean things with clorox wipes (can you guess what she sees me doing all day?), but since I've had my new camera, she is very in to taking pictures. She had to participate in a photography project for school, so I let her use the old camera, and she has now possessed it. She is remarkably careful for a 6 year old, so so far I haven't been nervous about her with it. I'll have to post some of her pictures soon...

Pearl rides a two wheeler!

So, my poor sweet uncoordinated daughter, she is six years old and she still doesn't have a two wheel bike. It took her FOREVER to ride the tricycle, so we went with a scooter instead. Her cousin Lizzie, got this bike from Grandma Weir for her birthday, but she's a little nervous to ride it, so Mara wanted her to see Pearl riding it. Well, Pearl was nervous too, it took a 25 cent bribe and a lot of encouragement from Annie, and also reassurances that the training wheels made it just like a tricycle...well, after a few tries, she was off! She rode around the neighbor's track for like half an hour straight. I love how proud of herself she looks in this picture.

Easter Nest's at Grandma Weir's

So, in my continued effort to keep the kids occupied during spring break, we spent most of the day Tuesday at Grandma Weir's house. I have a ton of pictures, but I thought I'd organize them into different posts...

One thing we did was a craft I remember my mother doing with us when we were little - rice krispie treat nests. Mara and I went to grocery outlet to get the supplies, so our "eggs" (which were supposed to be jelly beans) were a little unconventional. The kids didn't care, though!
Pearl got to help with the cooking, because she is the oldest.
Sam ate his fill of the candy before he decided to put his nest together.

Pearl's completed nests. Pretty cute, huh?

Swing

We found this swing on one of our recent walks down to the creek...it hasn't been there forever, the question is, who put it there? Anyone know? Pearl quite enjoyed it by the way...my sisters and their husbands decided to let her be the guinea pig on the unknown swing, just to make sure it worked before endangering any of their kids...:)

Better than slime mold...

I just had to counteract Jared's last entry with some more cuteness... Here are some adorable pictures I got of Sam and Pearl in the flowers...Sam is giving her a flower, then telling her to put it in her hair.

These are the baby chicks from less than two months ago. Big change, huh?! I guess they have to grow fast, another couple months and they'll be laying us more eggs... (oh dear, what was I thinking!)

I know the pictures are slightly fuzzy, but it was getting dark and I was trying not to use the flash...
