Aware.

Sam: Hey mom, I noticed something about those Shel Silverstien books!
Me: Really?
Sam: Yeah, did you know THEY ALL RHYME!!!!
Me: Yes, honey, that's why we call them poems.

On another occasion... we were at the nearly empty church so I let him go in the men's bathroom alone... 10 minutes later I pop my head in...

Me: Sam, are you ok?
Sam: Yes. Did you know that insects either have nymphs or larva?
Me: Fascinating. Why don't you wait until you're done in the bathroom to tell me about it...

Glasses

The two big kids had some overdue physicals yesterday. The good news, is that Sam passed his hearing test. The bad news... Pearl failed vision:). So we got into the optometrist this morning, and she was seriously in need of glasses. In fact, the optometrist told me to bring all the kids before first grade when he saw how bad she was (she had 20/80 vision!). A morning running around brought us to LensCrafters where we found some she liked that she didn't have to wait a week to wear. I think she looks cute, she's a little worried about looking like a nerd, but she can see so much better, she says it's worth it:)

Happy St. Patrick's Day

No pinches for this baby in her kelly green polka dotted legwarmers!

We had a fun St. Patrick's day, complete with traditional foods (I have about 1/4 of a loaf of irish soda bread stitting in my tummy) and an awesome rainbow cake... but I'm too tired from cooking and eating (best cabbage I ever had!) to tell you about it today... maybe tomorrow:)

First Foods

So... you can tell she is the fourth child. With Pearl, I was oh so careful, very runny organic rice cereal and breastmilk for over a week... then a new food every few days... oh the blenderfulls of homemade baby food. Not so much for Ruby. I'm sure I'll be doing the homemade food thing (the jarred stuff just smells nasty. And bananas, seriously, who on earth buys the jars of bananas?) But not for Ruby. No no no. This is how it goes with Ruby... she's watching me eat my smoothie... she just wants it in her mouth so bad... so I give it to her. That's right, Ruby's first food was blueberry/orange/banana/spinach/yogurt/oat groat smoothie.

She really liked it. And, apparently, she's not allergic to blueberries/oranges/bananas/spinach/yogurt/oat groats. Good thing:)

St Patricks Day

Here's a sneak peek at our St Patricks Day party... I know, I'm thinking of nominating myself for mom of the year:)

Sam's Face

Last week, Sam came home from school with his face looking something like this:

Actually, this picture was taken 3 days later, it looked a lot better by then. As always, it's hard to get the real story of what happened out of Sam, but I looked out of my kitchen door on Saturday and this is what I found:

I think it's fair to say that this is likely what happened... he was either "basking" like a lizzard (which he actually loves to do on the asphalt when he's cold, which is often as he has absolutely no body fat and his brain isn't big enough to remember to put on a sweatshirt at recess) or playing dead... (I heard both versions from him) and another kid tripped on his face and skidded it across the playground. Really, can you blame the other kid? Look at that silent sprawl... you do that on the playground, and you are just asking for it.... live and learn, Sam, live and learn:)

Good day, sunshine:)

Have I mentioned how much I love the weather here? It was supposed to rain today, but...
