Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

This is our Julia, the girl who, for the past year has enabled me to work even though my house is full of kids. This keeps me sane and happy and from getting in too much trouble when I go on unauthorized shopping sprees.
Julia's family owns a tree farm - the Dold Tree Farm. We've been going for several years now, and are finally getting the hang of choosing a tree outside that will still fit inside our tiny house (just imagine, several years of sawing off several more feet when we got home... they don't look that big outside!)
First, we got distracted with the dog. (NO, I WILL NOT GET A DOG!)
We met Jared there after work, which meant we had not much daylight left. Hurry Pearl! We have to find a tree fast!!! I must admit, that though we are super cool and go to a real tree farm to get our Christmas tree, we often have little light left and usually choose a tree in the first few rows. I know, not really the full experience of hiking the 40 acres or whatever they have planted, but I guess that's just our experience. I'm pretty good with those decisions, and can be happy EVEN IF I don't get the perfect christmas tree (my sisters totally made fun of my tree last year, well, they have both gone over to the dark side of fake trees, so that's all I have to say about that). Sherry, (my mother in law) on the other hand, struggles to make the decision every year with me in the background saying "it's fine, yeah, get that one" as she agonizes over the perfect tree. (to her credit, she did great this year). Let it suffice to say that if you have a really hard time choosing which shampoo to buy at target (LORA), this may not be the way to choose your tree:)
Mmmm, smells like Christmas!
Ok, here's the tree!!!
Our super strong Daddy lifting our "big" tree:) (yes, the bottom of it is in his other hand, it's really not very big)
Oh Sam, it's CHRISTMAS!!!!
Yeah, whatever people. I'm cold.
It took us a few days to get it decorated, but we did it this week. We put the tree upstairs again. Even though the ceiling is shorter, and we have to get a smaller tree, it's cozier, and we can see the lights twinkling from the window when we drive home:)
Ok, so I have to explain this picture. The kids had a great time putting ornaments up this year, they are the perfect age for that (though I think that Sam was dissappointed that he only had 3 ornaments and Pearl had 7, they get one every year - don't worry, he really enjoyed putting up Jared's childhood ornaments...). Pearl was pretty much tall enough to spread the ornaments throughout the tree with just a little help from Dad. Sam, on the other hand, picked a spot and put every ornament there. This is his ornament branch. It's low down right in the middle of the tree, and the picture doesn't do it justice. When you walk in, you can see this little cave in the tree that has a million ornaments (ok, like 20, but it seems like more when you see it). Just one more sign that "Sam was here!" (that and the two ornaments already broken, sigh, get the glue out AGAIN. Sherry says, Sam is just going to break things [cringe, what did he break at her house!], we just have to know this about him and be ok).

Christmas has officially begun!!!

Sadly, we have a fake tree too. Third year running. So sad, but if we didn't have our little 4 ft. $10 Walgreen's tree, we wouldn't have one at all. Someday (like 5 years or so from now when Brian can actually be called Dr. Taylor AND when he has a REAL job as so called Dr. Taylor) we'll go and pick out a tree somewhere. I am grateful I don't have to string lights on the tree. Mom takes upwards of 4 hours to string lights on the tree, but I suppose I don't have to do it quite so perfectly as she does. And we do have a tiny train Brian found on clearance after Christmas last year. That's really fun.

"Sam just breaks things." That cracks me up. My girls keep rearranging the ornaments. I wouldn't mind so much, but I don't appreciate it when they end up all over the floor.
